Ring of Fire
Mining the Ring of Fire – unlocking northern Ontario's potential
The Ring of Fire refers to a 5,000 km² area in the James Bay Lowlands considered to be one of the largest potential mineral reserves in Ontario that could create thousands of new jobs. The current absence of transportation and energy infrastructure limits the ability to develop this region.
OSPE aims to be the go-to resource for the public, First Nations, industry stakeholders, and the government by providing independent, non-partisan engineering expertise to successfully develop Ontario’s mineral properties.
OSPE’s Ring of Fire Working Group works to:
1) ensure policy decisions affecting mineral resources includes an engineering perspective
2) advocate for strong front end engineering (FEE)
3) educate Ontarians and First Nations communities about the economic opportunities and careers the mineral sector presents for Northern Ontario, the province, and all of Canada.
