Kim Simmonds, P.Eng.
Director, Application Management, CN
Kim joined CN full time in 1987 as a telecommunications engineer with the Signals and Communications group, a division of Engineering. She is a fourth generation railroader, so joining CN was a natural fit. Prior to joining IT in 2002, Kim held various positions with Engineering and Operations, including Manager of Fibre Optics, Sr Manager S&C Eastern Canada, and Division Engineer for Eastern Canada. She joined CN’s Information Technology group as a Director of End-User services, responsible for in sourcing the IT Help desk. Over the years, she has led the Telecommunications team, IT Operations, and in the areas of Intermodal, Transportation Systems and Information Security.
Her current responsibilities include life cycle management and support of CN’s 800+ applications; leading a motivated team through a transformation from “just support” to “management of applications” including total cost, application health and lifecycle decisions. On July 1st 2017, in addition to her role as IT Director, Kim assumed a 2-year mandate as President of PTC-220 LLC, a limited partnership formed between the 7 Class 1 Railroads in North America, with a mandate to manage the 220 Mhz Spectrum needed for Positive Train Control. Kim has 30+ years of experience at CN; where she has had boots on the ground across Canada and the US.
