Society responds to PEO Task Group on Technologist Licensure

After a thorough review and assessment of the issues surrounding the licensure of engineering technicians and technologists, the Society responded to PEO's Task Group report on the matter. While the Society supports the idea of having all members of the engineering team covered by the same licensing framework, the Board of Directors declined to endorse the Task Group's recommendations. In a letter to PEO Council, Society President and Chair Catherine Karakatsanis, P.Eng., M.E.Sc., emphasized that much more analysis must be done before a change of this magnitude is contemplated. In particular, the Society asked the Task Group to gather feedback from affected groups before proceeding. The Society committed to canvassing members for their views on the issue in its upcoming member survey.
