On March 23, the Ontario Government brought down its budget
for the 2006 fiscal year. In the budget entitled “Building
Opportunity”, Finance Minister Dwight Duncan outlined
the government’s financial commitments, with a strong
emphasis on infrastructure investment. The budget signals increased
opportunity for engineers and the engineering profession to
play a role in building and strengthening the province...
Recently OSPE made a submission to the Ministry of Municipal
Affairs and Housing regarding the proposed changes to the Ontario
Building Code (OBC) which are designed to increase the energy
efficiency of buildings. Highlighted in the submission, developed
as a result of member input, were various recommendations all
with an emphasis on the need for the changes to be more aggressive...
OSPE is pleased to announce the creation of our first Solid
Waste Management Committee. The Committee will work to review
the issue of garbage disposal for Ontario, and offer advice
for short and long-term solid waste management solutions. The
committee will work under the direction of William (Bill) Goodings,
P.Eng., a long time expert in the area of waste management...
Last month, OSPE held its first training session for the Society’s
newly created Political Action Network (PAN). The first group
of participants attended a one-day training session in the OSPE
offices to review policy issues and to learn more about their
