One
of the Society’s top priorities is providing members with
engineering career management services to enhance and advance their
opportunities. Our Career Centre has been connecting members with
employers and providing solid career resources exclusively designed
for Ontario’s engineers for the past three years.
On
March 23, 2004, we held our first Employer Appreciation
Breakfast to thank past and present engineering employers
for their continued support. The event also provided an opportunity
for OSPE to connect with new employers by demonstrating our recruitment
resources and by letting them hear positive feedback from current
employers using our services.
Over 70 engineering employers and recruiters attended the morning
session, taking in updates on the Society’s newest Career
Centre and Professional development initiatives. Employers learned
valuable tips on becoming a top engineering employer in Canada and
insights on the importance of business skills development and life
long learning opportunities for engineers. OSPE stressed the importance
of investing in employees and provided information on how the top
100 employers retain top talent. Is your employer one of the top
100 employers? Did you know that 50 of the top 100 are companies
that employ engineers? Do you know which ones?

Know
where the student jobs are?
Even
though you may not be responsible for hiring at your company, you
may know about an opening and who to contact. If you can help connect
a fellow member or an engineering student with possible job opportunities,
we would like to hear from you. Contact Cristina Graida, OSPE’s
Career Centre Coordinator, at (416) 223-9961 or toll-free at 1 866
763-9963 ext. 232, or by email at cgraida@ospe.on.ca.
The
next Employer Appreciation event will take place on June 3, 2004
in Ottawa. To keep up to date on all OSPE Career Centre and Professional
Development programs and services continue to consult, www.ospe.on.ca.
