| If
you are looking for an incredible opportunity to contribute to poverty
reduction, to deepen your learning and understanding of human development,
and to build and enhance your leadership skills, you are invited
to apply for a long-term overseas
volunteer placement with Engineers Without Borders.
EWB
is currently recruiting for long-term volunteer positions commencing
in both January and summer 2008.
As an EWB long-term volunteer - an experience that will certainly
change your life - you will have the opportunity to influence development
efforts with passionate rural entrepreneurs, women’s groups
and farmers. If you want to make a significant and concrete contribution
to poverty reduction these EWB placements are one of the best opportunities
available to Canadians.
Overseas,
EWB volunteers work in partnership with local non-profit organizations
or regional government offices in the fields of Agriculture,
Rural Energy, and Water and Sanitation.
EWB targets organizations at this level because they provide essential
support services for communities working their way out of poverty.
We believe that by assisting these organizations to work more effectively
we are best able to leverage our impact to many communities.
These
fourteen month placements are focused on creating
change by building the technical and organizational capacity of
our partners. Volunteers are not selected based on technical expertise,
but rather on a combination of knowledge, skills, and attitudes
towards working overseas. Prior to departure each volunteer participates
in over 250 hours of training and continues their professional development
while overseas through regional volunteer training meetings.
Positions
are available to French speaking candidates for work in Burkina
Faso and for English speaking candidates in Ghana,
Malawi and Zambia. The fourteen
month placements include a month-long pre-departure training in
Toronto. All costs for training and travel, as well as basic living
expenses, are covered by EWB.
