Fall 2003 - Special Edition

'Quirks and Quarks' host to address WEAC Fall Forum on October 25

On Saturday, October 25, award-winning science journalist Bob McDonald, renowned speaker and host of CBC's "Quirks and Quarks," will headline the 4th Annual Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Fall Forum presented by the Society's Women in Engineering Advisory Committee (WEAC). Register now and take a closer look at the changing face of the engineering profession.

The half-day forum, entitled The Nature of Engineering: Who We Are and Who We Want to Be, will feature a keynote address from Mr. McDonald, followed by a panel discussion on the ongoing evolution of the engineering profession. Participants will have a unique opportunity to enjoy fabulous speakers, share ideas and see York University's award-winning new Computer Science and Engineering facility, where the event will be held. The morning's program will be followed by a luncheon, where attendees can network with colleagues and learn more about WEAC activities.

"Now that WEAC has moved from PEO to the Society, the Fall Forum gives us a great opportunity to re-launch the committee and explore new possibilities," said Vera Straka, P.Eng., Chair of WEAC. "We've planned an exceptional program for the Fall Forum and I encourage all engineers and engineering students to attend."

Throughout the year, WEAC participates in events and forums of interest to Ontario engineers. The group provides resources for engineers to visit classrooms across the province, with a particular goal of encouraging young women to consider engineering as a career choice. WEAC also examines issues and obstacles still facing female engineers at university and in the workplace, with a goal of increasing the level of participation of women in the engineering profession.

Space for the WEAC Fall Forum is limited, so register today! You can find details on this exciting event, including complete registration information, by visiting www.ospe.on.ca.
