OSPE delighted
with government intervention in Hydro One dispute
On Sept. 16, 2005, OSPE
thanked the Minister of Energy and Government
House Leader, the Honourable Dwight Duncan, M.P.P.,
for stepping in and helping to send the Hydro
One labour dispute to the arbitration process.
In a letter to the Minister, OSPE President and
Chair, Chris Cragg, P.Eng. praised the government
for bringing an unbiased, third party into the
equation and for accepting the mediator’s
recommendation.
“It is in the
public’s best interest to have professional
engineers back to work in order to catch-up on
maintenance of critical infrastructure and therefore,
avoid potential malfunctions in the peak winter
season when lengthy outages can have a more serious
impact,” said Mr. Cragg in the letter.
OSPE has worked since
the beginning of the dispute, communicating with
both parties involved to assist with a solution
behind the scenes. Throughout the process, OSPE
supported fair bargaining for professional engineers
with compensation that reflects the importance
and value of their jobs.
