Energy

Excitement builds
for OSPE's new energy conservation brochure
Oct. 11, 2006
Since advising members
about this initiative last month, OSPE has received
many offers of support and assistance from highly
qualified engineers working in the energy sector.
Some of the ideas that have been put forward for
inclusion in the brochure are the use of LEED™
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
in building design, silicon-based lighting products,
and different types and uses of renewable heat
sources. OSPE’s Energy Task Force will be
working closely with the Ministry of Energy to
determine the right mix of energy conservation
facts, figures, advice and tips that will appeal
to professional engineers.
Why conserve?
The Ontario Power Authority forecasts demand will
exceed supply by the year 2025, if current supply
and consumption patterns remain unchanged. Conservation
is one way to effectively manage demand. And professional
engineers can play an important role in promoting
engineered conservation approaches and technologies.
OSPE was selected by the Ministry of Energy to
lead this initiative last month. The new energy
conservation brochure is planned for release in
Spring 2007.
