Chair meets with Opposition Environmental Critics

As
part of the Society's advocacy efforts to
reach out to all political parties in the
province, Society representative met with
Ontario's opposition Environmental Critics
to advocate the interests of engineers on
two key environmental issues. Meeting with
Ontario Liberal Environment Critic Jim Bradley
and for the second time with NDP Critic
Marilyn Churley, Society Chair, Catherine
Karakatsanis, P.Eng., and Alex Gill, Director
of Public Affairs spoke about the role of
engineers in the protection and development
of the province's environment.

Advocating on behalf of
Ontario's engineers, Ms. Karakatsanis spoke about
the Society's continuing work with the Ministry
of the Environment on Ontario's Safe Drinking Water
Act and addressed the governments recent draft regulations
under the Brownfields Statue Law Amendment Act.
Ms. Karakatsanis also
spoke about the Society's Brownfields Working
Group, which was formed to ensure the voice of
engineers would be heard on this important issue.
More meetings are planned
with Ministry official and politicians from all
parties and the Society will continue to bring
the voice of Ontario's 66,000 engineers to Queen's
Park on this very important issue.
