It's
time to start organizing for National Engineering Week 2008
The
National Engineering Week Ontario Steering Committee (NEWOSC)
provides funding assistance to eligible groups that organize
activities or events aimed at increasing public awareness
of the role of engineering and technology in society, plus
encouraging young people to consider engineering or technology
as their career of choice.
Organizers
of events and activities for National Engineering Week (NEW)
2008 (February 23 to March 2) can visit the NEWOSC website
at www.engineeringweek.on.ca
for more information and details on funding assistance. The
Event Organizer Help section offers suggestions and advice
ranging from volunteering to help with an event organized
by your chapter, to visiting an elementary school classroom,
to organizing a display of local engineering achievements
at your community library.
For complete funding
guidelines, an official application form and a sample application,
please visit the NEWOSC website and click on Event Organizer
Help, then Financial Assistance. The deadline for applications
is Friday, November 9, 2007. Please note that applications
received after that date will not be considered.
If you
decide to organize an event, remember that NEWOSC can help
you publicize it by listing it on its website. As soon as
you know the date, time, location and program, complete the
event listing form provided on the Event Calendar section
of the site.
About
National Engineering Week
Each
year, during the first week of March, National Engineering
Week (NEW) gives Canadians of all ages a chance to explore,
discover and appreciate how engineering, science and technology
contribute to our quality of life. OSPE is proud to be the
lead organizer of the Ontario portion of NEW.
In
Ontario, hundreds of OSPE members and
engineering volunteers devote their time and energy to promoting
their profession to the public. The emphasis is on hands-on
activities for children and youth that demonstrate real-life
applications of the maths and sciences they study in school.
If you
would like to get involved in future Engineering Week activities
or find out more, visit www.engineeringweek.on.ca
