There are six categories of Society membership:
Professional member
Professional (65+)
Associate member
Intern member Student member
Honorary member
Professional
member:
An individual who is resident in the Province of Ontario and
who holds a licence issued under the Professional Engineers
Act (excluding a limited licence, a temporary licence and
a provisional license). These members receive all print and
email communications, notice of meetings and are eligible
to participate at meetings. Professional members may vote
in elections and on Bylaw changes. They may serve on the Board
or standing committees, or act as representatives at the Society's
General Assembly.
Professional (65+):
An individual who is resident in the Province of Ontario and
who holds a licence issued under the Professional Engineers
Act (excluding a limited licence, a temporary licence and
a provisional license) and are aged 65 years or older at the
time of applying for or renewing their membership. These members
receive all print and email communications, notice of meetings
and are eligible to participate at meetings. Professional
members may vote in elections and on Bylaw changes. They may
serve on the Board or standing committees, or act as representatives
at the Society's General Assembly.
Associate member:
An individual who has met the admissions criteria approved
by the OSPE Board of Directors, which could include but are
not limited to the following: holds a professional engineering
licence in a Canadian jurisdiction other than Ontario; or
is a graduate of a CEAB accredited program or holds an engineering
degree from a university that has a CEAB accredited program
or holds an engineering degree from a program offered in a
country where a CCPE agreement applies or where PEO and/or
OSPE has recognized his/her educational credentials (as established
by the OSPE Board of Directors); or holds a temporary licence,
a limited licence or a provisional licence issued under the
PEO Act.
As per the admissions criteria approved by the OSPE Board
of Directors, OSPE will accept educational qualifications
assessments from the Engineering
International-Education Assessment Program provided by
Engineers Canada, The
International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS),
the Comparative
Education Service (CES) provided by the University of
Toronto, and the World
Education Services – Canada (WES). Please be advised
the assessments apply solely to Internationally Trained Engineers.

Intern member:
An individual who is resident of the province of Ontario and
who is registered in the Engineering Internship Training Program
(EIT) of PEO. These members receive all print and email communications,
including notice of meetings and are eligible to participate
at meetings. Intern members may be a committee member and
vote for the Society's Board of Directors.
Student member:
A student enrolled in an engineering program at an Ontario
university that either has or is seeking CEAB (Canadian Engineering
Accreditation Board) accreditation; or enrolled in an accredited
or recognized engineering program offered in a country where
a CCPE agreement applies. Student members receive all print
and email communications, notice of meetings and are eligible
to participate at meetings. Student members may be a committee
member and are eligible to attend the Society's General Assembly.
Honorary member:
An individual who has made an outstanding contribution towards
advancing the objects of the Society, as approved by the Board.
These members receive all print and email communications,
including notice of meetings and are eligible to participate
at meetings. Honorary members may vote in Society elections
and Bylaw changes. They may serve on the Board or standing
committees, and are eligible to attend the Society's General
Assembly.
